Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
The Lenovo ThinkSystem SR675 V3 with the components described below has been awarded the status of certified for Ubuntu.
The recent generation of AMD EPYC CPUs has up to 384 cores. qemu has a hard coded CPU limit of 288 cores, and this causes KVM guests to be unable to launch, failing with this error:
qemu-system-x86_64: Invalid SMP CPUs 384. The max supported by machine 'pc-q35-7.1' is 288
This is a bug in upstream QEMU. As a workaround until QEMU is patched to support more than 288 CPUs, You will need to disable the number of cores so that the total is at or below 288 in order to use qemu as a hypervisor on systems with the high core count CPUs. This affects both single socket and multi-socket systems where the total core count is higher than 288.
